INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE -
PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME

At Broadgreen we aim to provide learning experiences which reflect real life, encourage international-mindedness and foster a positive attitude towards learning.

We want to nurture respect for and appreciation of all beliefs, cultures and customs within the school and the local and global communities.

 We want to encourage children to become independent and creative learners and to this end we have adopted the International Baccalaureate ‘Learner Profile’ and are working towards becoming a World School. Staff and pupils at Broadgreen strive to be:
 Open-minded, Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Caring, Communicators, Risk-takers, Principled, Open-Minded and Reflective.

 The IBO is a non-profit educational foundation which aims to develop enquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through inter cultural understanding and respect.

 The Primary Years Programme
Our ‘Enquiring Minds’ Curriculum is transdisciplinary (cross-curricular) and is organised into six units of enquiry.
* Who We Are
* Where We Are In Time and Place
* How We Express Ourselves
* How the World Works
* How We Organise Ourselves
* Sharing the Planet

 Pupils are encouraged to make connections to their own lives and enquire into areas that interest them in order to extend understanding. They are also encouraged to take action in real life situations; these may be personal or global issues.

For more details about each unit please see the individual class pages.

 If you would like to know more about the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
