Reception - David Attenborough
Hello from Reception!
Your teacher is Miss McClune and your learning support assistants are Miss Dickson & Ms Black.
It’s going to be a fun packed year full of explorations and adventures!
This year our Class name is David Attenborough. He makes lots of really cool TV programmes about animals and our planet. He has even been knighted by the Queen which means we call him 'Sir' David Attenborough. We can't wait to go on lots of adventures and be great explorers this year just like David Attenborough!
In Reception, we offer a fun, creative curriculum which supports individual needs and learning styles, and caters for children’s interests. Children in foundation stage learn through play, talk, exploration and observation of the world around them.
There are seven areas of learning, three ‘prime’ areas which build the capacity to learn (Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development) and four ‘specific’ areas which help strengthen the prime areas. The specific areas are applied through Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Children will have daily phonics, maths and literacy sessions delivered through adult-led activities both as a whole class and small groups. The children also have the opportunity to pursue their own, child-initiated activities and interests. They can also take their learning outside with our secure outdoor area and covered conservatory. Each area of learning is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Play is essential for children’s development, builds their confidence as they explore, think about problems and relate to others.

Reception uniform is black jogging bottoms or leggings, white polo shirt, Broadgreen jumper or cardigan and black shoes or pumps. Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes with them as we tend to get very messy or wet throughout the day.
Reception will have PE on Monday and Wednesday. Kits will be sent home on a Thursday afternoon to be returned on Monday morning.
PE kit is a white t-shirt, black short and black pumps.
Children have weekly homework of either Maths or English and a weekly home reading book. Both are sent out on Friday and are to be returned by the following Tuesday.
