Reception - Yolande Brown

Hello from Reception!

Your teacher is Miss McClune and your learning support assistants are Miss Dickson & Ms Black.

It’s going to be a fun packed year full of explorations and adventures!

This year our Class name is YolanDa Brown, who is a saxophone player and broadcaster on Cbeebies. YolanDa and her house band “The band Jaminals” entertain an audience of children with popular songs from the series. Reception class can’t wait to join in and ‘jam’ with YolanDa this year!

Class Information

In Reception, we offer a fun, creative curriculum which supports individual needs and learning styles, and caters for children’s interests. Children in foundation stage learn through play, talk, exploration and observation of the world around them.

There are seven areas of learning, three ‘prime’ areas which build the capacity to learn (Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development) and four ‘specific’ areas which help strengthen the prime areas.  The specific areas are applied through Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Children will have daily phonics, maths and literacy sessions delivered through adult-led activities both as a whole class and small groups. The children also have the opportunity to pursue their own, child-initiated activities and interests. They can also take their learning outside with our secure outdoor area and covered conservatory. Each area of learning is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Play is essential for children’s development, builds their confidence as they explore, think about problems and relate to others.

To encourage and develop relationships with parents and careers we invite you to join us for Stay & Play the first Tuesday  of each month 8:50am-9:50am.

For more information about the curriculum click here.

 Useful Information

Children have weekly homework of either Maths or English and a weekly home reading book. Both are sent out on Friday and are to be returned by the following Wednesday.

Reception uniform is black jogging bottoms or leggings, white polo shirt, Broadgreen jumper or cardigan and black shoes or pumps.

If you have any questions about Reception or your child’s learning feel free to email.
