Last day of the week Y5, you can do it! As always, I am very proud of all your hard work this week and would love to see some more fabulous work today so don’t forget to send pictures! Have a great weekend and don’t forget to make some time for yourself to relax, Miss Murphy x

RESOURCES FOR Y5 DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE

3.4.20
Good morning Y5! I know it has been a strange few weeks, but I know you have all worked really hard with your home learning. It is Easter next week so make sure you all take a well-earned rest and take some time to do things that make you feel happy.
Remember to keep active! There are lots of activities online. I know you all really enjoyed our gymnastics classes and you were all so amazing- everybody was so impressed with your skills!  Discovery Education has their own gymnastics section alongside other activities. Maybe you could sequence your own routine to show your adults? Why not try being resourceful and making your own apparatus at home too! I would love to see videos.  https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/t2_gym/index.html?source=subject-PE-KS2-PE-Modules
Have a lovely rest Y5, I miss you all so much and you continue to make me the proudest teacher every day. Keep up the fantastic work! Love Miss Murphy.

Y5! Remember before half term we were studying Andy Warhol and the Pop Art era? I have recreated a famous Warhol painting and added the pop art effect! Your challenge is to recreate the original painting with your own pop art style. I would love to see pictures! My drawing took a couple of hours each afternoon to complete. Maybe this could be a nice art project to keep you busy over Easter? Perfect opportunity to show your resilience. Miss Murphy x

Hi Y5, I am sure you are all working really hard and making me very proud at home. Please check https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z826n39 and https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/ for video clips to help support your Maths learning. Stay positive! Miss Murphy x

30.3.20

I  have found some really useful links for our Inquiry topic on North America. You can research different climate zones, population sizes and explore human and physical geographical features across the continent. Maybe they could help with your research projects?
BBC Bitesize also have some really interesting science experiments and video clips that link to our 'Materials and Changes of Properties' topic. Make sure to also explore the 'Solids, Liquids and Gasses' section too!
Happy researching! Miss Murphy.

Good morning Y5! I feel fantastic after my Joe Wicks PE lesson this morning. I hope you’ve all been joining in too! Now I’ve set myself a challenge to see how many jumps I can do in a minute. Remember to do something each day that makes you smile and gets you moving! Miss Murphy x

26.3.20
Good morning Y5! I know a lot of you were really interested in our current science topic. I have attached a link so you can investigate further and see lots of cool experiments. Have a lovely day, Miss Murphy x  https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/s2_inv_change/index.html?source=espresso-home-mixedrecently-viewed

Good morning Y5! I hope you are all well.  It’s fantastic to see some of you have started your home learning activities. You all make me so proud and I miss our lovely class. For all my Harry Potter fans, I have found a great resource that is Harry Potter yoga! I did this myself yesterday and really enjoyed it. I hope you like it too!

Year Five - Benjamin Zephania

Welcome to the Year 5 Class!

Our class name for this academic year is ‘Benjamin Zephaniah’. Benjamin is a well renowned British poet and writer who has received numerous awards for his work alongside several honorary doctorates from various universities across Britain. He is a member of the Times’ list of 50 greatest post war writers and is a true testament of hard work and dedication. From a young age Benjamin was diagnosed with dyslexia and left school unable to read or write. Despite this, he is now considered one of the most influential modern day poets and has inspired generations of people across the world.

Your Year 5 teacher is Miss Murphy and Miss Ellison is our class teaching assistant.

Year 5 is an important year as many final-year objectives are introduced before next year’s SATs. Although the curriculum does increase in complexity, the great variety of topics that the children study will excite and inspire them ensuring Year 5 to be one of the most exciting years yet!

From sculpting our own mythical creatures to the heights of space, from the production of our Anglo-Saxon TV News Report to the construction of space rockets; there’s sure to be something to excite your child.

We have an exciting year ahead of us. The children are going to be learning and applying a range of new skills through our English, Maths and Science lessons embedded in our Inquiry-based curriculum – for more subject-specific information please see our Curriculum Page.

The children will start each day with handwriting or a basic skills activity, followed by Active Reading sessions, Maths and English lessons each morning. Science, History, Geography, Computing, P4C and many more subjects will be taught in the afternoon.
