Welcome to Year 3, and welcome to KS2. Your class teachers are Mr. Forde and Mrs Allen and they are supported by Miss Williams and Ms Lopes. We have adopted Mae Jemison as our class name, the first African American Female to go to space.
As our pupils make the transition from KS1 to KS2 a lot of support is put in to help them with this transition in the first few weeks. Pupils settle quickly into Year 3 and we begin our learning journey in what is an exciting and important year as we start life as juniors.
Topics include the study of the Stone Age, volcanoes, flowers and plants whilst we ask philosophical questions for our Inquiries such as, ‘What would happen if all the bees die out?’
Later on in the year, we undertake scientific investigations into the nature of light as well as making a study of ancient Egypt.
We develop our reading and writing skills further of course and we take the step forward into solving ever trickier maths problems and understanding how to use maths in our everyday lives.
An in depth study of rivers in the United Kingdom takes place which includes a fascinating study of the role of the River Mersey in Word War 2. We even visit the U- Boat museum by taking a ferry trip!
Year 3 is indeed an exciting and important phase of education and we look forward to seeing our pupils succeed in their first year as juniors.
Our P.E days are on Monday and Wednesday.
PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and will be sent home every Friday to be washed and returned for the following week, to ensure we are keeping to Covid 19 guidelines.
Reading books: Due to Covid 19 we will be only sending reading books home once a week. This will be done on a Friday and the books need to be returned on a Tuesday, allowing us to clean/quarantine them over the weekend. Once your child has read their book if you could sign in their home reading record to allow us to track where they are up to.
The children will also further develop their coding skills in Computing lessons and how to stay safe with E- Safety lessons.
Although it is difficult to personally meet during COVID restrictions, please feel free to email either of your school teachers in the first instance if you have any questions or concerns. The details are below.
