Welcome to Year 1's Autumn Term Adventure!
Autumn is here, and Year 1 is buzzing with excitement for the new term. We have a fantastic curriculum planned, packed with engaging activities and opportunities for learning and growth. Let's take a peek at what's in store:
English:
My Life - Biography (Labels and Captions): We'll be exploring biographies. We'll learn how to use labels and captions effectively to describe not only our own lives but also the lives of characters from our story.
The Enormous Turnip (Narrative): Dive into the world of traditional storytelling with this classic tale of teamwork and determination and write our own simple re-telling.
The Little Red Hen (Narrative): Join us on an adventure with a clever hen who teaches us important lessons about hard work and sharing and use these ideas to develop our super sentence writing.
Autumn Changes (Information Text): Explore the wonders of the season as we learn about the fascinating changes that happen during autumn and how to write information boxes to show what we have learnt.
Fireworks (Poem): We'll discover the magic of words and rhythm as we explore a captivating poem about fireworks.
Hedgehog’s Journey (Story): Follow the journey of a hedgehog as we explore themes of adventure and friendship.
Maths:
Place Value: Explore the world of numbers and learn about the importance of place value.
Addition and Subtraction: Develop your maths basic skills as we learn more about addition and subtraction.
Shape: Get ready to explore the fascinating world of shapes and geometry.
Science:
Animals including Humans: Discover the amazing world of animals and their classification and the incredible basic functions of the human body.
Seasonal Changes: Explore the magic of autumn and learn about the changes that occur in our environment during this season.
DT (Design and Technology):
Constructing Windmills: Let your creativity soar as we design and build our own windmills.
Art:
Art and Design Skills: Get your artistic juices flowing with activities that include drawing and painting. Learn how to make your mark with colour and creativity.
Music:
Introducing Beat: Explore the world of music as we learn about beats and rhythms.
Adding Rhythm and Pitch: Take your musical journey further as we delve into pitch and harmony.
Computing:
Using a Computer (CS): Develop essential basic digital skills as we learn to use computers effectively.
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education):
Family and Relationships: Explore the importance of family and relationships in our lives and focus on health and wellbeing.
R.E. (Religious Education):
Believing: We'll explore religious beliefs and teachings using various sources, and questions about meaning, purpose, and truth. Our focus will be on understanding "Who is a Christian and what do they believe?"
History:
Gunpowder Plot: Get ready for a historical adventure as we learn about Guy Fawkes and the famous Gunpowder Plot.
Geography:
Our School: Get to know our surroundings and learn about our school in a fun and engaging way whilst developing map skills.
We can't wait to embark on this journey of learning and exploration with our Year 1 class. It's going to be a fantastic autumn term filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable moments. Let's make it a term to remember!
In Year 1, our aim is to ensure that your child experiences a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One and that the Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that your child has had in Reception. Learning through play both indoors and outdoors will continue to be an important part of the school day, and your child will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused, eager and independent learners
